Calais  to Bourg d'Oisans  8.5 hrs. Boulogne to Bourg d'Oisans  9 hrs. Ferries these days are getting cheaper and cheaper depending on the time of day you travel, length of stay and how far in advance you book. Speed Ferries start at £50 return and P&O evening ferries £72 return.

It's very easy driving across France as the motorways are much quieter than those of Britain. You simply follow the Blue Motorway signs, firstly heading towards REIMS then TROYES, DIJON, LYON and finally GENOBLE. On approaching Grenoble follow the A480 (Sisteron - Briancon) exiting at junction 8 "Vizille - Stations de l'Oisans" and then follow the N91 climbing for 13km to Bourg d'Oisans.

Purchasing the MICHELIN MAP 726 (Route Planning France). It shoes where the toil booths (Peages) and service stations  are. There are many, many rest stops (Aire de...) along the route, some full service stations others just toilets and picnic areas. Remember fuel is half as cheap in France, so it's worth filing up in Calais instead of England for the journey down if you can. The toils on thye motorway cost approximately 60 Euros each way.
