Skiing Alpe d'Huez ski area The vast ski area offers something for everyone with 235km of pistes and an efficient lift system comprising 87 lifts. The satellite villages of Auris, Villard, Oz and Vaujany are all connected by the system and the VISALP ski pass allows access to all these ski areas. Beginners The lower lying pistes in the bowl surrounding the town are mainly red, blue and green runs that offer an easily accessible "playground" for beginners and children. Intermediates By ascending further to 2700m there area range of more technical red and black runs. Pic Blanc at 3330m gives everyone the opportunity to ski at this high altitude on the glacier. Advanced The more adventurous can descend via some of the challenging black runs that lead you back to the town. There is also The Sarenne which at 16km is well known as the longest black run in Europe.
Snowboarding Whether you are a jibber or a freerider Alpe d'Huez is the place for you. It boasts 235km of groomed piste riding. For beginners there are areas where excessive speed is prohibited and the resort doesn't have to many drag lifts. From Pic Blanc (3330m), you can descend the Sarenne piste which at 16km is Europe's longest black run. Snowpark If you prefer jibing or "air time" the snowpark is the place to go. It offers a 300m vertical drop and 2km of descents with more than twenty bumps and jumps, a boardercross and a halfpipe. Freeride Alpe d'Huez has over 20 classic long off piste routes with all terrains; steep faces, open plateaux, gun barrels, couloirs and plenty of hits with vertical drop of over 2210m making a trip off piste a real must. |
